Building “coamings” for Syrinx, a 1985 Lyle Hess Cutter built in Deer Isle, ME.

The owner of the Syrinx, Lowell Harrison of Berkeley Marine Canvas, had proposed the idea of building a set of coamings/benches for Syrinx around December 2025. In May 2026, we finally started designing and thinking about construction. What was important, and rather nerve wracking to me, was to not ruin the spirit of the boat with lines that don’t belong aboard. Lowell had mocked up some versions of benches a few years back and we used his models as a starting point for the parts I would eventually build.
